Angels in America Part 1 by Tony Kushner

Angels in America, which happened to be taking place over Zoom, was an excellent opportunity to use my digital production and rendering skills. The general concept for this show really changed and transformed throughout the process, but we landed on creating a comic-inspired aesthetic with illustrated storyboards throughout the action. I was responsible for creating simple drafts of the illustrations which were used for a photoshoot with the actors. Our illustrator, Jeremy Floyd, then articulated those pictures in the final rendering, which I then manipulated in Photoshop to create more dramatic effects. It was so helpful to break everything up into these steps because there are well over 100 illustrations. And outside of the illustrations, we have even more storytelling devices, such as collages. I created these collages with the input of the director, Mikael Burke, and they are intended to represent whenever we are in the “magic” space. I’ve also had the chance to create some animation for the ending of the show, which you can see here.
